Rita and Michael's Wedding

Last weekend, we had the pleasure of going to Rita and Michael's traditional Jewish wedding in Kansas City. It was a flawless, gorgeous event on a beautiful fall Sunday evening.

My little envelope that I made to house our gift to the couple.

This is the first moment that Michael saw Rita. We were included in the ketubah signing which is held right before the wedding with close friends and family. We all circled around the couple as they signed their handmade ketubah which will hang in their home for the rest of their lives as a symbol of their marriage. It was really special to be a part of.

The chuppah is held over the couple by their family while say their vows.

The reception was in downtown KC at a loft gallery space called Studio B. We started in a little room with appetizers and cocktails. Then the couple arrived behind the band as they processed through the room. The band was the Grand Marquis, which is one of mine and Chris's favorite bands to swing dance to. Then we all followed Rita and Michael into the other larger gallery space to beautifully set tables and a gorgeous atmosphere overall. It was such a fun wedding!

Last harvest of the season

It was rumored that there would be a hard freeze the other night (it never actually happened) so I pulled all of my peppers and tomatoes, even the green ones. I even said a little farewell to my garden. "Goodbye garden, it was a great year. See you next spring." The funny thing is that I'll still be seeing a lot of my little garden this fall with the pulling of plants and laying of compost. There is still a lot to be done. By the way, tomato plants are sure a pain to pull out. One plant can fill one or more of those brown paper lawn bags! Should I throw it all in my compost instead? Instinctively I feel like I shouldn't. What do you think?

I also had to throw in a couple of gratuitous kitty photos. She's so cute!

Battle of Black Jack

Last Sunday Chris and I took a lovely Autumn drive to Baldwin, which is a little town just 20 minutes South of here. We took the back roads and enjoyed the beautiful changing leaves along the way. We went to the Battle of Black Jack memorial and walked around. They have a nature trail through the prairie. It was a perfect day.

here ye, here ye!

Oh Renaissance Festival, how you entertain thee. It had been a number of years since my last visit to one of the largest Renaissance Festivals in the country found right here in Kansas. Wow. Quite the spectacle. I felt weird for wearing jeans and a t-shirt! I had no idea that the whole point of going is to pull out your corset, cinch it up as tight as possible and dust off ye ol' accent of random European origin. We had a great time. One of our favorite things about the fest was the bird show. We saw a variety of really cool birds up close. But most of all the people watching...oh the joy!
