100th post! Carrots and Spontaneous Foodie Club.

It was an awesome week of carrots and delicious food. We had a planned yet spontaneous dinner club this week. There was a feast of: lamb shanks on baguette with goat cheese, (more) lamb with linguine and pesto, roasted home grown carrots with lemon and kalamata olives, a salad with lettuce from the garden, fried speck, walnuts and croutons, and anchoiade and baguette. I didn't get a picture of the dessert but it was fab-o. Sean made an apricot custard that was really tasty. We ate outside because the weather was great and ended the night around the fire. Thanks friends for a fantastic evening!

First carrots of the season! There are plenty more where that came from.

Thinly sliced speck that was crisped up later on.

Depal assembling is lamb masterpiece.

Ta Da!

Roasted carrots. Mmmm...

Anchoiade with baguette. Sean wanted to drink this with a straw and I have to say that I might agree with him.

It has 250 rooms including a bowling alley and a heated indoor swimming pool! The part I really loved was the 75 acres of formal garden, complete with a gigantic glass greenhouse full of exotic plants. If you are ever in North Carolina you should seriously consider seeing this. It was something else...

p.s. We weren't allowed to take photos inside.

North Carolina: Part 2

Here are some more pics from our trip to North Carolina. We ate at a really awesome brewery in Asheville and drove to the top of the highest mountain peak east of the Mississippi River. Right as we got to the top, the fog rolled onto the mountain. It was really beautiful. Then we went on a little hike in the woods. There was moss and lichen growing everywhere!
